Questions answered.
Is General Liability required by law in California? +
GL is not mandated by state law in most industries, but it's effectively required in practice. Most commercial leases, client contracts, and licensing boards require proof of GL coverage before you can operate or start work.
How much GL coverage does my business need? +
Most small businesses start with a $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate policy. High-risk industries or those doing large-scale contracts may need $2M/$4M or higher. We'll help you determine the right limit for your risk level.
What does GL not cover? +
GL does not cover your own property damage, employee injuries (that's Workers Comp), professional mistakes (that's E&O/Professional Liability), or intentional acts. Those require separate policies.
How fast can I get a certificate of insurance (COI)? +
Once your GL policy is active, we can generate a COI same-day โ often within hours. If a client or contract requires additional insured status, we handle that too.
What's the difference between occurrence and claims-made GL? +
Occurrence policies cover incidents that happen during the policy period, even if the claim is filed later. Claims-made policies only cover claims filed while the policy is active. Occurrence is generally preferred for most businesses.
Does GL cover remote or home-based businesses? +
Yes โ GL is available for home-based and remote businesses. Your homeowners or renters policy does NOT cover business-related liability, so GL is essential even without a physical storefront.
